Replicas of Columbus Ships Nina And Pinta In Pgh 10/1-12

Christopher Columbus' ships are sailing back into town.

Replicas of the Nina and Pinta, which drew crowds when they were docked on the North Shore in 2012 and 2009, will be returning to Pittsburgh on Sept. 30.

The ships, which are operated by the Columbus Foundation, will be docked at Station Square in the South Side and will be open to tours from Oct. 1 to 12, before leaving in the early morning of Oct. 13.

The Nina replica was built completely by hand, without the use of power tools. Archaeology magazine called the ship “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.”

Admission for self-guided tours of the ships is $8, $7 for seniors and $6 for students 5 to 16. Children 4 and younger get in for free. The ships will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. No reservations are necessary.

Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30-minute guided tour with a crew member should contact them directly
