The City of Pittsburgh's Affordable Housing Task Force is hosting 4 Deliberative Forums this March, and we want to hear from you! Please help us spread the word in your community. 
The Affordable Housing Taskforce's Deliberative Community Forums will give neighbors a chance to learn about the work of the Affordable Housing Task Force. The forums will also provide an opportunity for the community to provide input on affordable housing issues, specifically relating to policies, programs or initiatives designed to increase the supply of affordable housing in the City of Pittsburgh.
Affordable Housing Task Force Deliberative Forums – 6-8:30pm
  • West End – Monday 3/7, American Legion, 2863 Chartiers Ave., Pgh PA 15204
  • South Side – Tuesday 3/15, Lifespan Knoxville Resource Center, 320 Brownsville Rd., Pgh, PA 15210
  • North Side – Wednesday 3/23, Letter Carrier’s Union Hall, 841 California Ave., Pgh, PA 15212
  • East End – Tuesday 3/29, Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., Pgh, PA 15206
Each forum will include:
– A brief overview of the Affordable Housing Task Force and Affordable Housing in Pittsburgh
– Small group discussions of priorities recommended by the task force
– Q&A opportunities with the panel members
All forums contain the same presented content, and are open to every resident of the City of Pittsburgh.  Families are encouraged to attend and participate.

  Applications for the Spring 2016 Civic Leadership Academy are now available!  The Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) is a FREE ten week course for City residents that provides an inside look on how City departments and authorities operate.Throughout the course, 12 City departments and authorities present on their day-to-day operations, budgets, new initiatives, and upcoming projects, and residents have the opportunity to ask questions, tour facilities, and network with fellow civic-minded residents.
30 students are accepted into the program from all different backgrounds, ages, and from neighborhoods all over the city.  We will also continue to reserve up to 15 seats for New Americans as part of Mayor Peduto’s Welcoming Pittsburgh Initiative. 
Applications are due Friday March 4th, and classes begin Wednesday, March 30th.  Students will be alerted of their acceptance by the third week of March.  Classes are held every Wednesday for 10 weeks from 6-8:30 pm downtown as well as various locations throughout the city.

Small Business Resource Fair.
The Mayor's Office in partnership with the URA will host a complimentary, government focused, Small Business Resource Fair. The purpose of the event is to oer small business owners in-person access to representatives from all relevant departments within city services (zoning, permits, ADA compliance, etc.). You will have the opportunity to have all of your questions answered ? all in one location. This event would be ideal for small business owners such as restaurateurs, retail owners, contractors, etc.

Tax season is just around the corner. Luckily, there are free tax assistance programs available to individuals who may need help completing their tax forms.
 
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will become available from February 1st to April 15, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm. To make an appointment, dial 2-1-1 or 888-553-5778. Appointments are held in various government offices throughout the city. For more information on VITA, click here.
 
In addition, United Way's 2-1-1 line also offers volunteer tax assistance at various other locations throughout the city. Appointments should also be made by dialing dial 2-1-1 or 888-553-5778.

Participate in the Energy Efficiency Challenge

Sign up to receive 12 free DIY energy efficiency tools for participation in a 12-month energy efficiency challenge. You will get information and guidance from your own neighbors on ways to lower your energy bills.??

Apply for Home Weatherization Plus Services

30 single-family, owner-occupied homes will be selected to receive an initial energy audit, weatherization services (like air sealing and insulation), and any repairs determined necessary by the audit team.

Get Involved: Be an Energy Coach

Energy Coaches will attend free training and planning sessions to help roll out the program to these neighborhoods, organize distribution of tips and tools, and gather feedback from participants.
